About

Marlae Vermeer (she/her) is a Registered Social Worker and Registered Clinical Counsellor who supports individuals, couples, and families, with a focus on family therapy, parenting support, caregiver coaching, and parent–teen mediation. Her style is empathic, identity‑affirming, strengths‑based, and practical, drawing from Narrative Therapy and Emotion‑Focused Family Therapy.

Marlae provides individual, couples and family therapy:

  • For individuals, she is able to help with anxiety, depression, burnout, trauma and intergenerational trauma, identity and belonging.
  • For couples, she is able to help with communication, conflict repair, and clearer patterns; caregivers seeking practical tools for co‑regulation, routines, and boundaries.
  • For families, she is able to help parents, co-parents and caregivers with children and youth navigate relationship challenges and neurodiversity (ADHD, autism, ODD).

She offers sessions virtually or by phone with daytime availability.

How I Can Help You

I care about creating a safe, steady place to look at the stories and events that have shaped your life — especially the ones that feel heavy, confusing, or outgrown. I may be a good fit if you’re exploring identity and belonging, wanting more ease in relationships, or rebuilding after stress, burnout, or past hurts. I also support caregivers and families who want practical, compassionate tools for communication, repair, and day‑to‑day moments that matter. Together, we might grow self‑efficacy, resilience, and coping skills so your life may feel more workable.

Approach

My approach is person‑centred, strengths‑based, and paced to your comfort. We’ll get curious about the story you’ve been carrying — where it started, what it has protected, what you want to keep, and what you want to change. Together, we might:

  • Gently name how earlier experiences and attachment patterns show up now.
  • Try language for repair when emotions run high.
  • Build small, doable practices for regulation and boundaries.
  • Test change‑oriented steps between sessions to see what helps.

With caregivers and families, I often take a coach‑like role: supporting confidence, connection, and co‑regulation; aligning on limits; and creating practical routines at home. My aim is to foster a space that is safe, identity‑affirming, and useful.

Issues I Can Help With:

  • Relationship and family patterns
  • Communication, conflict, and repair
  • Parenting support, caregiver coaching, and parent‑teen mediation
  • Trauma and intergenerational trauma; shame and self‑criticism
  • Anxiety, depression, emotional overwhelm, and burnout
  • Identity and belonging; gender exploration/affirmation
  • Neurodiversity in the family (ADHD, autism, ODD) and related behaviours
  • Life transitions: school/career shifts, partnership changes, moves
